Practical Positioning Tools for Birth Professionals
Evidence-informed strategies you can apply instantly — in any birth setting.
Support physiological births confidently and effectively.
When Progress Is Unclear
Even the most experienced birth professionals encounter moments where progress is unclear and decisions feel heavier.
In complex labour scenarios, even experienced practitioners can face moments where:
Progress slows or stalls
Interventions increase without clear reasoning
Team dynamics shift
Position changes feel reactive rather than intentional
OMP equips you with practical positioning frameworks grounded in biomechanics and physiology, so your decisions are guided by structure, not guesswork.
The Framework Behind the Work
Ginny Phang-Davey — Optimal Maternal Positioning
Optimal Maternal Positioning™ is built from over two decades of clinical practice, teaching, and hands-on birth support.
Taught internationally across hospital, home, and birth centre settings
Used by midwives, doulas, educators, and birth teams worldwide
Grounded in biomechanics, physiology, and real-world application
Developed through observation of thousands of labour patterns
OMP is not a collection of techniques.
It is a structured way of reading and responding to bodies in motion. Thank you for being here.
With respect,
Ginny Phang-Davey
How You’ll Develop Through OMP Training
Structured, biomechanics-informed education designed to strengthen your clinical reasoning, positioning decisions, and adaptability in real-time birth settings.
-

Confidence in Every Birth Setting
Tools you can trust to stay calm, clear, and responsive — whether it’s your first birth or your 1,000th.
-

Deep Mechanistic Understanding
Learn how alignment, movement, and pelvic dynamics create space and support labour progress.
-
Practical Techniques You Can Apply Immediately
From pelvic mobility protocols to active birth positions and comfort measures, you’ll learn techniques that work in real time — not just in theory.
Ongoing Professional Integration
OMP is not a one-time course.
You’ll be part of a growing global network of practitioners who:
Discuss real cases and positioning adaptations
Share observations from diverse birth settings
Refine application through lived experience
Develop shared language around biomechanics and space
Learning continues through conversation, reflection, and integration.
Applied in Real Labour
After a very complex first birth with significant intervention, I approached my second pregnancy differently.
I practiced the OMP routines daily and became deeply familiar with the labour openers, they felt intuitive when labour began.
From the first contraction, I used the techniques I’d learned movement, positioning, and pelvic opening and felt confident in how my body was working.
My labour progressed smoothly and quickly, and I was holding my baby just three hours later.
I truly believe OMP supported me to achieve my VBAC. I felt informed, capable, and deeply supported throughout.
