Outlet Pelvis: Kabyle Position
outlet pelvis: Kabyle Position
As impossible as the Kabyle Position looks to be utilized during labor and birth, it is actually a very doable and helpful maternal position and movement that can be utilised whilst pushing with lots of creativity in usage of props to support this technique!
The Kabyle Position is a combination technique of:
changing the orientation of the pelvis with the laboring mother arching her back, and;
extreme hip flexion in a squat to modify the opening of the outlet pelvis.
This can be done with the mother starting in a standing or squat position, holding on to a birth support, or better still, a birth rope or squat bar and she bends her knees into a greater than 90 degree flexion whilst arching her back.
You can use this technique in a non-problematic labor and/or to modify the pelvic opening and create more space in the outlet pelvis. Any techniques for the second stage are best utilised with good and effective breathing techniques to enable the mother to bear down effectively.
For OMP Active Birth Positions , OMP Pelvic Mobility Protocols and OMP Comfort Measures to be effective, it has to be done during contractions and used for 5-10 consecutive contractions to see if it is effective in enabling labor to progress.
This is very helpful to use in the second stage of labor when contractions are still spaced close to each other.
